20 Vils Chinese Fast Feudal
The goal of this build is to get you comfortable with one of the most awkward openings in the game, the Chinese. This is a fast Feudal Age build, so you can go into Scouts or Archers from here, and it can also adapt into a Man-at-Arms rush or even a tower rush. The Chinese opening looks intimidating, but it's actually quite simple once you get used to it. The whole point of the civilization is being up 2 villagers by the time Feudal Age hits, which puts you ahead by default against the average civilization.
- [Dark] Send 6 vils to sheep right away (no houses needed) (pop 6)
- [Dark] Research loom
- [Dark] Send 1 villager to sheep (pop 7)
- [Dark] Send 3 villagers to wood (pop 10)
- [Dark] Send 1 villager to boar (pop 11)
- [Dark] Send 1 vil to make 2 houses then mill on berries (pop 12)
- [Dark] [Highly Recommended] Lure deer - food runs out quickly with Chinese
- [Dark] Next 4 vils to hunt under TC (get the second boar during this time) (pop 16)
- [Dark] Send 4 villagers to berries (pop 20)
- [Dark] Research Feudal Age (perfect landing time: 8:25) (pop 20)
- [Feudal] Move 2 vils from under TC to first lumber camp (pop 20)
- [Feudal] Move 5 vils from under TC and send them to make a second lumber mill (pop 20)
- [Feudal] Build a barracks when you can afford it
What next: Going Scouts: just make a Stable in Feudal Age and get both economic upgrades. Going Archers: on the way up, send 2-3 villagers to gold and build a mining camp, it can also be worth taking the straggler trees with your remaining hunt villagers. Get both economic upgrades here too. Going Man-at-Arms: make 3 Militia once your Barracks is up and send them forward. Get the Man-at-Arms upgrade as soon as you hit Feudal Age, along with Double-Bit Axe. Going tower rush: send 4-5 villagers forward and build your Barracks close to the enemy base, so you can reinforce with Spearmen and a Range for Skirmishers. A Man-at-Arms tower rush won't work with the Chinese, there isn't enough resources to afford it early on. Once you've stabilized in Feudal Age, it's a regular game, and you're up 2 villagers, so as long as nothing goes wrong, you're already ahead. That's exactly why the Chinese are so strong on land maps.
